BioHi. I'm Fernando Hernandez, I mean, Ami Garcia.
Well, actually if you want to get technical, I'm Camilla Dawn Garcia, but even people that can say "Javier Grillo-Marxuach" without blinking seem to have trouble with pronouncing my name "Cam-EE-lah" instead of "Cam-IH-lah."
So yeah. You can call me Ami.

This is where I'll be sharing my random stories, recipes, and such as I go about learning how to cook.
So the story goes, I've always been a terrible cook. I've never really had any interest in cooking, either. But as of late, I've been thinking about the fact that in less than two years I'll be out on my own, and I would rather not live off of mushy Top Ramen (that's right, I mess that up too!) and tea. Well okay, I'd go for the tea part.
Anyhow, so my mom, an HG-TV/Food Network junkie always watched this one show every night with that host-y guy from Iron Chef America. I'd watched it once or twice before and thought it was pretty funny, so I started watching it more often and realized how much easier to understand his show was than most of the stuff my mom watched. By explaining a lot of the science behind what you were doing, even really simple things, it made understanding both cooking and science a lot easier.
It also resulted in the creation of this journal, which I will use to document my attempt at cooking for both school-related and entertainment purposes. Especially at first, most of the recipes will be from Good Eats since besides Iron Chef America that's the only cooking show I watch right now. My mom's trying to get me hooked on The Barefoot Contessa. We'll see.
